Years ago, maybe 12, I scraped, primed and painted my father's house. It was alot of work, and I hand no help. but I didn't mind, it was summer, and I was about 15 or 16.... In return, my mother and father bought me an Arlington Ordance M-1 Garand. It is built on a Springfield receiver, and has mostly GI Parts, but with a new Arlington Ordanance Barrel, and a new walnut stock set...

I don't see anything listed on the web for Arlington Ordanance, I take it that they went out of buisness... I haven't shot my m-1 too much over the years, maybe 100 rounds, but I have always enjoyed it, and it seems to have been re-built with care...

Anyone else have a rebuild by Arlington Ordance? Are others of good quality?

I also remember that they made a .308 "tanker" garand... I haven't seen one in years... Are they common?

I'm not sure about any of this, but i seem to recall this as the story: They were importers who brought them in from Korea. I think they were like Blue Sky. Can't tell you anything else, and I may be totally wrong.

Are you sure the barrel is Arlington Ordnance, or that's the importer marking on the barrel? The barrel maker is usually indicated on the side of the barrel in the slot opened when the oprod is fully to the rear.

I recall at the time they had two types od M-1's avaible from Arlington Ordance, an import, which were pretty beat up, and a rebuilt rifle.... Mt dad opted to get the rebuilt rifle for me. The barrel is marked "Arlington Ordance, Arlington VA, cal 30-06" in the slot under the op rod. It is a new barrel. Import marks are usally near the muzzel, or on the receiver, but there are none, so I assume that the gun was imported, but after re-building the rifle, Arlington Ordance was not required to put importers marks on the gun???

Are they still in buisness? I would love to ask them about it....

Thanks!

I have an Arlington M1 like yours with a new barrel and all GI parts. One unique feature on mine is the addition of a firing pin spring. Check your bolt, you may also have this feature. The design is so simple I don't see why it was never incorporated as a standard feature on the M1 and M14.

I would guess that it was never incorporated because it was not needed. Keep the rifle as simple as possible and it will be more reliable. The issue free floating firing pin met the spec. I do agree that for a civilian rifle, this would make more since but for a battle rifle, I'll keep the free floating firing pin ;)
