Shorts C-23 Sherpa

Its a later and larger version of the Shorts SC.7 Skyvan.

The Skyvan is widely used in skydiving, the Sherpa not so much.
Another cool tailgate aircraft is the CASA C-12 Aviocar.
Wish I had a dollar for every CASA and Skyvan I've jumped out of.

nasa flies a lot of different types. for the life of me, i can't remember the name of that one in the pic, but it is widely used in skydiving. the army team uses that same one if i remember right.

Exact model no, but plenty of planes with the NASA emblem.

I worked as an electrical contractor at the Johnson Space Center in Clear Lake, TX (south of Houston).

Worked at the Space Center and at Ellington Air Force Base where NASA kept the planes the astronauts trained in.

Saw a U2 stashed in one of the hangers and actually got to peek inside the "vomit comet" the plane they simulate weightlessness in.

GI1 Its an apt name.. being that anyone but the military knows them as Short 330 or 360.

Used to see them everyday while at high school in Zweibrucken Germany at the Air Force Base there. It was a RF-4 and C-23 base at that time.

Our 3rd BN, 135th AVN had these, before a recent reorganization. I liked the Caribous better, there were basic, but move a lot of parts and equipment for the BDE.

Not that strange, NASA flies aircraft doing ice research and calibration for some of our Earth Science observatories.
