Yeah, they have some lame name for AWS now. I can beat your "Air Force forgot you..." story. I was in King Salmon AFS, AK (joint use AF/civilian) and worked with the weather bureau (observer 25251). The only time I got in uniform was to get paid and for space available flights on leave. (See my post on the Chanute B-36 elsewhere on this forum for some memories.)Air Weather Service (now called something else). After Chanute AFB Weather Specialist school, went to Davis Monthan AFB, then 3 years with the 3rd Infantry Div, at Giebelstadt AAF W. Germany. Talk about fun, the Army didn't know what to do with us, and the Air Force forgot about us.
My favorite thing was when Army guys noticed the different patches on our BDU's, they'd come up and say "I was going to join the Air Force, but ------" (fill in the blank).
My reply: "Oh cool, I was going to join the Army, but my scores were too high"... It was cruel I know, but I always like the look on their faces.
I married a Soldier I met there, as a matter of fact. We're going on 20yrs this year. Hottest Army chick I ever saw; even better today....
