Any machinists able to make a thread protector like this?

Looking for a thread protector for 5/8 x24 just like this, but 1.5 or 2 inches long.

Anyone have any leads, or the ability to make one? Not needing the threading to be the full length of the protector, just .5inch of it.

how about the 3D Printing guys.
or get you some PVC pipe close to the diameter you need, and use a heat gun to heat the PVC and screw it on and off. .

Pretty sure I've got a tap, but don't have any material like thick wall tubing.

Maybe you could use a pice of a fat, shot out barrel with the outer diameter you need and just machine it?

Black, just like that? Knurled or smooth? Parkerized?

Ideally looking for smooth and not knurled, black or park doesn’t matter, so long as it isn’t stainless for my purposes.
I will try to make one for you

No problemo, but I would need more dimensions. ID? OD? etc. Do you have a pic of threads it would protect?

I have the machine tools to make one, but spare time is of the essence. So, I bought one from SARCO along with the threaded barrel when I was building my Para Black Ops from a frame. The Black Ops with the thread protector is the 1911 on the top.

Thanks everyone! Obviously, I’m happy to cover cost of the effort and materials, etc to whoever may be able to make this for me.

This is going on either an SEI threaded front site or a delta p threaded m14 front site adaptor. Outer diameter of the one pictured was .730. I can measure the inner diameter today and report back.
The inner diameter isn't necessary, since the thread pitch will determine that.

TRUTH! I have tools, but the project list is way longer than the time available in life.

I probably have enough of an old barrel that I can make one. I just bought the tap for a thread protector I made for another barrel also

Maybe. What does the protector seat against? A dimensioned sketch on an MRE box would be helpful.
I just so happened to be making another one.

this measures .750” (5/8x24). I can turn it down to .730 if you want. Once I cut it off it will be about 1.7” long

You’ll be responsible for making it black. I could use some cold blue on it but that doesn’t get too dark.

I have a couple similar to these on two rifles and FWIW, machining two wrench flats on them would be advisable.
