Does anyone know of a prefab MFG or custom shop that makes cheek risers for the M1A stocks in the 2+" rise range?

Oh - sorry - to be clear: one that velcros or laces on type - not a "drill through my stock" style

Why would you want to raise your head so high? Are you talking about an M14? The scope should not be mounted more than 1/16" above the rear sight aperture if using a Brookfield or similar mount. Most scopes can be mounted using low rings so a tall cheek rest is not necessary.

I'm using the GDI G1-OSM... with the optic I have on it - I need about a 2.5" (rough measurement, I don't remember what I wrote down when I was at the range) rise off the stock for what feels like a proper weld / eye relief spot.

Frequently see shooters at matches both civilian and military that have simply taken cardboard and duct tape and built them a riser to suit their purposes. Whether it is cool or tactical is of no concern to these shooters, just what works for them and cost is minimal to say the least. That is a lot of riser you are after, but different strokes for different folks. Just a suggestion.

Your probably going to need to make your own. But better to lower your setup if you want to shoot well. It's not like an AR setup where you are more verticle when you shoot.

$2 this is a easy way to measure correctly what you actually need. Wrap it with an ace bandage and some cloth. Then stick a clothing pin in it to use as a gauge to measure.

I'm using a 50mm scope and was thinking 2 inches would be about right. After thinking up this crazy plan it turns out 1 inch was plenty.

I suggest you find a simple cover for the butt (I think I've seen them called cheek pads, not cheek rest) and add material from underneath it to your liking with thick pipe insulation.

I couldn't find anything that fit me perfectly, so it was kind of a half-fast DIY project. Didn't look awful and didn't spend much money.

Your mount setup is really made to go with a modular type stock configuration . Your not going to find a traditional type riser for the setup you are looking for.

The TNVC is 1.5". You could put 1/2" of foam under it and I think the Velcro straps are long enough to accomodate the extra height.
But lowering your setup is a much better way to go.

I bought one to see how it would work;; you get 3 different sizes of hard foam; I can put 2 pieces of foam and secure the straps. could not do the 3 pieces of foam. I have not shot with it but do have it mounted on a M1A stock; you can get left or right hand ;;;; Oh and the one shown you can lift both sides of the top to get all 3 pieces of foam;; the one they sent me I can only lift one side . Quality is ok for being made in China.

Just get some closed cell foam (old usgi iso mat). Cut it about the length of your finger, layer it up and use duct tape to attach it. You could wrap the duct tape in camo tape to improve appearance. If you don't have any camo wrap just go to your local Walmart get some moleskin and put some of that on it to give it some traction. You can make a cheek riser as hard or as soft as you like to fit your face exactly how you like it for a few bucks.

That is something I was thinking, making my own, using some thin'ish sheet leather actually, enclosing some high density foam cut to size / elevation.

While probably perfect in terms of rise - I won't drill holes in my stock. I would do it if I was running my synthetic stock as the main stock for the gun - but I'm running my tiger striped birch, so yeah, not a viable option at the moment.

TNVC. Setup for 1.5" but I don't use it anymore at that height. I think the straps are long enough for 2" but call them to make sure before you buy.

Walt, that Tac Pro they are showing ;; you do not drill holes in the stock ;;; The screws you see are to hold the riser in place . This also would work for you with the extra 1/4 foam laying on top of the stock. Check out their web site. they have 2 models for the M14.

One you do drill and this one that you do not drill you use the straps to keep it in place.
