I just got done stripping my stock and giving it a final sand. It has turned out good so far. My question is my stock seems pretty light (in color). I plan on using tung oil, but will it darken up the wood or do I need to use some kind of stain?

Tung oil will darken the stock and the more you use the darker it will get up to a point. I usually use 5 or 6 applications as I don't like it too dark. I apply a coat and let it dry about a half day and then apply another until it darkens to the point I like it.

Thanks Raw,

One more question, I have read about mixing tung oil with mineral spirits on the first few coats, is this recommended? If so what is the mixture?

Also do I need to do any sanding between coats
