Hey team,
Recently published guidance changed some rules at Holloman AFB.

- Old rule, the base would require you have a New Mexico concealed carry permit to keep the firearm in your vehicle and you had to register whatever firearm you carried in your car on base... you could not carry on your person when out of your vehicle and your vehicle must be locked when I unattended...

- New rule, you may Cary your firearm (pistol) on base but the mag/Ammo must be removed and the firearm must be stowed in a locked compartment or locked case. No registration necessary if you don’t live on base, no permit required to carry in your vehicle. Still must lock car and may not carry on your person outside of your car...

Not a bad move IMHO. Means people that live off base can carry legally to and from work. Keep in mind, New Mexico is an open carry state that allows carry in a vehicle without a permit.

Just some decent news in this time of anti-2A and political craziness.... the Wing Commander has been listening and making sound decisions.

"Sound decisions," but extremely lacking in an "active shooter" situation on the base when privately owned firearms are locked in a compartment/case which is not in immediate possession of the law-abiding folks at the time of an "active shooter."

Nice move by Wing Commander, but lacking when you would REALLY NEED to "fill your hands" [to quote John Wayne] in an "active shooter" situation. Ruling can be made better.

JMHO
