I graduated college with a Journalism degree. Got hired onto a weekly newspaper chain covering a small bedroom community.
My views were well known in the newsroom. To remove any doubt of my Second Amendment views, a picture of my girlfriend (now wife) shootin' my AR was on my desk.
*************
I called my career choice into question when I got sucked into a discussion with some members of the Editorial Board.
Remember the Black Rhino back in 94/95? You know, that bullet that could magically punch through a Level III vest and then mushroom into a devastating wound channel? Well, our newspaper chain was going to take a stance on the issue and print it as a House Edit on the topic (that's what they call those items on the far left of the editorial page).
They decided to consult the resident "gun nut" for a little technical info. I told 'em it was a bunch of crap. I went into excruciating detail into ballistics (internal, external and terminal) and pulled out every article I had on what ammo can do what. No way in hell a round could do that, I said. They either punch through or mushroom, etc. I was pretty darned proud of myself.
Then a week later, I read the editorial page.
"BAN THE RHINO" screamed the headline. It ended up being a regurgitation of a HCI press release, as well as a twisted interpretation of one of the Marshall & Sanow articles I gave 'em.
Let's just say my young idealism was pretty much crushed by that. I got a good object lession as to how "impartial" editors can be.
You bet there's a media bias.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I'm no longer using my degree, making a heckuvalot more cash, and I'm not looking back...

PS: The only bright side to the experience is that I took a staff photographer to the range a few times; he ended up getting his state gun permit... and his first real rifle was a Norinco M-14!!!
