To the day

Looks like for every active member there are usually 3 or 4 lurkers who are reading and watching the world of the M14 / M1A...

I personally know some of the lurkers and a good many of the lurkers would like to, someday, own an M1A. Your opportunity is coming.

Pick the options you would like to have on a slightly used / safe queen ( NM, loaded, etc) and write the price down as of today. Between January 1, 2016 and March 1, 2016 you will have an opportunity to pick up a weapon of similar condition for 25% less than you see it listed for today. This should be your incentive to save your money.

Just my gut feeling.... What do you have to loose?

I just received this email from a well known, respected ammo supplier:

The warehouse crew gave us the nod and we're taking a queue from Wall Street today - time to sell off ammo at freshly discounted prices!

Hopefully some of you have put aside some cash in order to take advantage of the excess inventory at some of the suppliers.

I don't see a quick ending to this economic down turn so you will have a couple of more months to take advantage of some of these deals.

Hard times will bring good people together.

I agree with you 100% about your early 2016 timeline, Hobo......However,
These lurking gentlemen had better get their rifles soon, I predict with an unsure election looming ahead with the real possibility of Hillary being elected, early Fall 2016 will bring high prices and shortages again, maybe another panic.

God how I hope you are wrong. I prep but hope to heck to never need it.

I heard the same thing from a local prepper here, but it was something to do with monetary/financial cycles, and having been 7 years since the crash of 2008, and other related things. Who knows? We can only be the best prepped as we can be, but having a proper rifle/ammo/training is top priority and should be considered by lurkers/newbies as a first procurement.
I will say to them that the M1A is My SHTF rifle.

Did we ever really recover from this? It seems that our economy is being propped up by QE and BS.

I have just returned after a long absence. I dunno what it is. I always wanted an M14 and bought a loaded model...put it in the bloody gun safe - and forgot about it! Oh, I watched the Iraq Vet on Youtube and loaded up about 400 rounds too.

Last weekend I dug the stupid thing out and fell in love with it all over again...

You don't know love until you shoot it. Caution: Shooting an M1A can cause sudden urges to purchase other M1As like a SOCOM RNGR1

......... 6 months later.

An interesting post HH.

I would like to add that a box (or box +) of ZQI or any fmj 7.62x51 / .308 ammo picked up on say a weekly basis during this period would be money well spent/allocated.

Well Grateful Lead .......... For those that took your advice, they would be about 25 boxes to the good. I'm seeing some very good "vintage" USGI parts becoming available.

This is the time to gather weapons, parts and ammo....... It won't be like this forever.

Well, in my small way, I've been beefing up the M1A package. The standard turned into an obsession to add a loaded (on the advice of a good friend (with evil intentions I'm sure....you know how them retired Marines are......) hopefully before July. Over the past few months, added five 25 round mags (from our friends at 44Mag), added reloading components to feed the machine, hooked a friend on the need for a SOCOM....he bought it a week later.

We all try to do our small part. Baby steps perhaps, but yet, steps in the right direction.

Since my OP, if you would have put aside $90 / week.... You could pick up a very nice weapon....

Water is still # 1..........

Was in the group of "lurkers". Trying to be more active.

Well, my OP is now about 9 months old. There have been some excellent deals.... both on parts as well as complete weapons.

Every "Carry Concealed" (CCL) class that I have casually observed, has been full.

I'm getting notifications from the ammo dealers and the prices have continued to come down.

Shelves at my local stores are well stocked with ammo, except .22 LR.

Everything in life runs in a cycle. A 9 month cycle offering affordable, quality firearms and reasonably priced ammo will come to a close as the presidential elections come to a conclusion.

American's have time to put a few things in their emergency stores. Remember, we could wake up tomorrow to a different world. No need to break the bank, just get ready.

In closing, the most valuable commodity will be drinking water. Without that, none of the other stuff really matters.

The events of the last 24 hours could very well signal the "end of cycle". Move expeditiously.

Greetings from the left coast. I am a new shooter. I now possess a Springfield Scout Squad and the funds to feed it. I want to learn as much about this rifle and how to operate, maintain and equip it. Looking forward to interacting with you on this trip.

UPDATE: My M1A Standard has a big brother. Finally picked up my NIB Loaded with Archangel stock 1 Nov. Slightly late on the time table but mission completed. Now, about that EBR trigger group...

Spreading the gospel, one person at a time. Got a friend hooked into the need for a NM, which was picked up last August. And yes, he's a member of this site as well, now. Today, no rain (exceptional for our area) so it's off to the range for both of us for some serious discussion and maybe even a few dozen rounds down range. Got some factory 175's to try out.

Thanks to all of you for your encouragement and support through your postings here.

Good advice on saving money for m1a purchase .cant do pics yet but after years of drooling ,wishing ,zombie like walking to every m1a at every gun show I went to I ran across this older gentleman who was selling off his fine collection of firearms .when I picked up the m1a for the 10th time he said "sonny " you really like that don't you .I said yes sir I always wanted an m14 but I knew that was out of my financial realm .He sits back and said son let me tell you a true m14 story and he did and at the end he said that ain't second hand son I was there .I left his house that day with a Clinton ban era ( yea I know pre ban ,post ban i been reading " lurking" a good while myself ) but mine is a during the ban year ,standard m1a with NMbarrell ,NM front and rear sight NM flash hider no bayonet lug ,m14 collector grade walnut stock with markings after researching ( mostly on this forum thanks guys ) it also has usgi trigger group ,bolt assembly ect ect .He ordered it from Springfield Armory Inc as close to M14 specs as he could at the time ,he said he ran a couple of boxes of Winchester white box through it cleaned it and it had been in his gun cabinet since and it looks like it .I gave him 15 one hundred dollar bills ( the freekin story was worth that ) and left his house with above gun a hard case 5 20 round usgi mags 1 10 round sai mag a smile and shooting itch that Lord willing I intend to scratch .So fellow " lurkers " forget what someone else tells you one of these rifles is worth " oh that was a steal oh you paid way too much " forget that cause son I tell you when you go to the range and a guy with an AR is going pop and a metal target down range is going ping and your fire off with a boomyahhh and a metal target down range goes clannngggggg ,he walks down to where you are and asks ,sir can I fire that just once ? Well you can't put a price on that .Yea ya friends will say but what about MOA . Really if they were honest how many of them can truthfully shoot a minute of angle group with any rifle ,but ok ok I understand my m1a won't shoot a 1moa group but it will scare the crap out of a 1moa group and look so cool doing it .But ya one .
