I am sure I have read about it before, but I can not recall the info.
What is the cutout circle in the end of the M1/M14 safety for? Is it just to reduce weight or is there another reason? It would make a good lock-out devise with a padlock, but I have doubts that is the reason for it being there. Thanks for the help.

I always assumed it was so they could put them all in the rack and lock them all in at once. But I could be and am probably wrong.

Has the hole always been on the M1 safeties? It has been on all I have seen except the winter safeties.

We put a long shank padlock through it and secured it to the bunk. The shank prevents the trigger guard from being pulled out.
