If my memory serves me correctly there were several variances of the .50 cal round that we used back in the fabulous sixties ... :)

Ball ... Tracer ... AP ...

From there my mind goes blank ...

Were there others and if so what did they consist of ...

TIA Bill

Well let's see, they had Dummy, Blanks, Armor Piercing Incendiary, and Armor Piercing Incendiary Tracer. For rebuilding the guns they had High Pressure Test ammunition. There was all sorts of specialty ammo and experimental stuff around when you and I were in, but whether many units got to use or see it is another story.

With the .50 Spotter they had the Spotter Round which consisted of white phosphorus (106mm Recoilless Rifle).
Speaking of 50cals....I just got my first 50cal Rifle! :) I got a Barrett M99 and I was wondering what brand/make of 50cal ammo I should use and what kinds I should stay away from?

I see Century selling 50cal ammo but not sure what brand...just says surplus....prob. Yugo.
I wish I could help you but my knowledge is limited to US GI stuff. I do know that the Dominican .50 ammo is hell on bolts. The primers disintergrates into a grit which enlarges the firing pin hole in MG bolts. Your best bet is go to one of the ammunition boards and ask there. Those guys will know all the foreign stuff which is usually on the market.
Thanks Bill! I will do that.

It sure gonna hurt shooting this baby....it's like throwing $1 bills down range
