Hello,

I have owned a solid rail extender on my scout squad that extends to rail to a comfortable eye relief for a bit now and haven't been able to shoot much. I have also owned scope mount installed over the chamber. I know a post has addressed rail extenders before but I want to know your personal experience with them and how they size up to say a Sadlak. Like how it holds a zero over time. I like how easy it is to detach from the rifle and secure, with Loctite, to the front rail. The price difference definitely makes it worth a look. Bought mine on amazon by searching 1/2 inch high rail extender. It has a peep sight running through it which helps with bouncing from long shots to close shots via iron sights. I'm happy to hear some alternatives to anything that utilizes the rail mount to secure a scope mount.

I'm extremely wary of anything that costs $35 as a replacement for something that costs $200.

As am I. I'm big on "you get what you pay for" but I found the same metal make up such as steel and aluminum on these rail extenders that makes the Sadlaks or other. I am trying to see if this is a real alternative or just a pipedream.

There's a lot more than just the grade of steel or aluminum that goes into manufacturing these as far as their quality. A rail extension needs to have enough rigidity to ensure that it doesn't springboard under the weight of the scope from recoil.

At any rate, I'd be worried about damaging your scope, not your $35 rail section.

If your not shooting much and just want to try it to see if you like it..... Then buy the cheap one and give it a try. If it does the job then buy the quality one.

If you spend top dollar on a rail and don't like the fit then you will loose $35 trying to sell it off on Ebay.

Another option is place a "Want to Buy" ad and pick up a used one to try.

Larue alluminum is rigid as oliver cromwell when he banned christmas.

Things like this are what I was looking for. I didn't really consider the scope being affected i.e. broken. It doesn't seem to springboard and I have been trying. I just didn't want to find out a flaw while I was out in the middle of nowhere hunting, or shooting. Wonder if there are any that link into the clip guide. I feel odd have that rail in front and not using it to secure something.

I haven't seen the DCSB bounce. It's rigid in the stripper clip base.

Larue is known for making a very well-engineered product. Is this one as well-engineered? Like I said, it's about how well made it is. I'd be more than a little skeptical of a rail like that being made well, but that doesn't mean that it isn't.

Id be concerned with rail geometry first and foremost.

The dcsb does not bounce when seated but damn sure flexes under fore more than a larue.

The military uses the dcsb without incident , but remember the clip base is the most out of spec area on commercial m14s.

I often wonder if this the cause of the threads of frustrated ebr owners.

To keep my dcsb from bouncing i have to lower the screw enough to lose metal contact.

Also, you're going to need to invest in a cheek pad for that. I'd get a scout optic or a red dot.

Something to take away from this, is that that ER section may work as an Alternative to a Sage DCSB or Larue 608 if it's stable based on its length for use with an EBR chassis, but the scout mount is too far forward.

GG&G makes a scope mount for the Scout rail. Last I check they're pretty reasonably priced online.

Ha thanks for thinking that was funny Mocos. The rings are actually more forward, the eye relief is surprisingly adjustable on that scope, Nikon, and I have shot it at that far back ring position. It actually worked, surprisingly, and didn't exactly hold zero. I am probably going to invest in a shorter extension. I did see the GG&G. I am trying to see if 35$ can actually buy you something decent. I do have a cheek riser/pad enroute. I really wanted to stick with this to see if this was an actually working set up instead of my Sadlak go to. I am going to experiment with different heights and manufacturers and materials etc and do a review for the forum. I am bored. Thanks for the welcome.

The reason it won't work because it is like a long lever... even a little bend with a ring setup like that will translate to big innacuacy. Just get a decent scope mount instead of wasting money on crap.
