I am looking to pick up an affordable .22 range gun. I am trying to conserve ammo, but still want to shoot. So I was think about picking up a .22 that I can put a few hundred rounds through and not hurt my wallet. I had thought about pick up a .22 upper for my AR, or a 10/22, or possible something similar to a Cricket. I don’t really care if it’s a bolt or semi; I just want something fun to shoot. Any input will on make or models would be greatly appreciated, there is a gun show in NoVa this weekend, and I will more than likely pick something up if I can find a deal.

M&P 15-22 is a blast to shoot, but probably outside affordable.

Love my Marlin 795. Add Tech-sights and you're golden. Just can't build on it.

Nothing wrong with a 10/22, especially if you want to make it tacti-cool down the road.

Any bolt action .22 rifle is accurate, and every one I have ever fired was fun! You can spend under $100 to thousands on a bolt .22 rifle. I have a CZ 452, it is a nice quality rifle that can still be found at a reasonable price - and it is very accurate.

Hard to beat the CZ for price point, quality and accuracy.

I recommend getting a full-sized boltaction, magazine fed, with an aperture rear sight, and post front sight. At gun shows look for older Win / Rem / Savage / Mossberg.

If you think you'd ever want to put a scope on it, make sure the receiver is grooved for scope rings.

And make SURE that the rifle comes with at least 1 magazine - some are tough to find and expensive...

.22s are a hoot.

My recommendations:

Pistol: either a Ruger MkI/II/III as noted above or a single six/ten.

Rifle, 10/22, or a CMMG stainless conversion for your AR. They are a lot of fun.

Have several 22 Lr/// MP 15/22 Performance, Ruger 22T, Win, single shot, 1st rifle ever owned, Rem nylon 66 , Rossi pump, Rem 541T, is my favorite for accuracy.( Nail Driver ) Wish I could find couple 5 rd mags for it. It helps conserve ammo.

Something not mentioned yet is a lever action. Don't know if that interests you or not.

Both Henry and Mossberg make them. I got my son a youth Henry lever gun in 22 LR and I liked it so much I bought a full size adult version.

Under $275 out the door and accurate for the Henry, the Mossberg was over $350 I believe.
