I am starting two new builds, and have a couple of questions. I am planning on short barreled "Bush/Tanker" style style rifles. I noticed that Criterion has two profiles for the short barrel. A standard weight, and a heavier weight, based on what appears to be a medium weight barrel profile.
If the purpose of the shorter barrels is to make for a handier rifle with a quicker, easier handling, what is the purpose of the extra weight? Does the shorter barrel throw the balance off that much. I don't think the recoil would be that much worse.

It's not the extra weight that matters, that is just a caveat. The goal of the intermediate barrel is to improve accuracy by eliminating whip. The further forward the heavy contour extends, the more rigid the barrel.

An ideal barrel would be the intermediate contour with flutes to reduce weight.
