I installed a polyurethane buffer that replaces the bolt stop pin. Has anyone had problems with the bolt recoiling forward again with too much velocity and cramming rounds against the breach before they fully enter the chamber?

Don't know if it is the trick buffered bolt stop, or the rotary mag springs getting weak and not pushing the rounds up well and fast enough for the bolt to engage them properly.

Opinions and experience welcome. Thanks.

BTW, this is a 1982 Ruger 10/22 with about 4000 rounds through it. All else is in great shape.

HI, I have a poly bolt stop in my 10/22 and haven't experienced any issues at all. Rifle has about 2000 thru it, mine also has the Volquartsen extractor so I'm not sure if that could be the problem with yours. Did you have any problems before changing the stop?

Glad to see this mentioned for whatever reason I have been lured into the 1022 arena and recently bought a used Ruger 1022 Target version. Ordered one of those lever type magazine releases, polymer bolt pin, and gadget that holds 3 of the 10rnd. magazines.
Never thought about what you describe as a possible problem but will check mine out when the parts get here and installed. Ruger definitely hit it out of the park with the little 1022 and the modifications/variations are endless.

Thanks. I love this gun. Had it since new. Put in a trigger upgrade, new titanium extractor claw, and the poly stop.

Claw solved the extraction problem. Trigger is sweet now.

Then after about 500 rounds this new issue came up. The lead nose is smashed and caught against the lower edge of the chamber opening and the brass is crushed about 2/3 of the way up the cartridge by the bolt.(No change of ammo. Only fire Winchester M-22 lead round nose 40gr). Typically the last few in the mag only. Suspecting the mag now. 35 year old springs?

I'm thinking the poly stop is rebounding the bolt faster than the magazine can feed the rounds up into the proper position for successful take-up. And I have noticed now 500 rounds since installing the poly stop it is no longer straight and difficult to remove/install when stripping the gun for cleaning.

I have been shooting it a lot lately. Set up a range with golf balls on eye hooks hanging from a wire at 100 yards, as well as other more regular targets. Yes, it is possible to hit the golf balls. When there is no wind!

My goal is to skill build to where I can hit those regularly off hand and not just from the bench.

Sure saves $$ building skill over firing 7.62!

I installed a $50 Pursuit scope from Big A$$ Bass. My gun is so old I had to get the right rail from Optics Planet. The old rail for the Bushnel I took off was not compatible with anything new.

Been finding bricks of M22 online for $45-$55 on line. Yeah its expensive for 22. But still affordable for a day of fun.

Have a private 200yd. range at my disposal and few of us normally shoot High Power matches, but find the 22's to be a lot of fun and less hassle/cost so we do it quite a bit these days. We shoot at 50, 100, and 200yds. and the tricked out 1022's with match grade ammo does almost as well as my Rem. 40X and other similar match rifles. Some use the Kidd, Volkhartsen, Clark, etc. high dollar versions of the 1022 but my factory Target version holds it's own with them and a heck of a lot less money I would add.
I am going to swap out the extractor even though no problems to date but don't want any to develop.

The old steel claw just wears out. I was having a lot of FTE issues. Bolt would smash forward on empty cases crushing them sideways in the exit window. Titanium claw solved that quick and easy! Also keep the claw recess in the barrel breech really clean. Takes a sharp hooked tool to totally clean it out. Can't see in there and gets a lot of blow-back crud.

BTW, been thinking and noted the new BX 25 rnd mags (which our gov'nr just don't wanna see here) have not given me any feeding issues I mentioned earlier. 35 year old magazines are highly suspect now! New springs vs. old springs. Maybe not the poly stop at all.

You may need to thoroughly clean your rotary mags. They collect an amazing amount of crud internal over years of shooting. They can be disassembled and cleaned (a bit of a pain), or more easily soaked and flushed out repeatedly with solvent. You'll be surprised how much better they feed afterwards.
