For an 18inch EBR I think this optic fits the purpose perfectly. But it is in my price range and what I think is Medium to long range which is 600-1000+

      http://ads.midwayusa.com/product/55...xj1ajDzUUPA9mFry6YAxKmRPKN2f1GQSHIaAp_n8P8HAQ

It is the Bushnell Elite Tactical 3.5-21 FFP with the DMR Mrad reticle. On my national match EBR I decided to go with the Bushnell elite 4.5-30 FFP with DMR reticle only due to a great deal of around 30% off for black friday. Otherwise I would of went with the 3.5-21. One of my requirements for a DMR optic is if it is going out past 600 yards then I have to have a mildot or mrad style of reticle (not a fan of horus though) for ranging and it has to be a FFP optic for accurate use of the mil or mrad measurements.

Another optic is the Vortex Razor HD Gen 2 4.5-27 FFP with Mrad Horus style reticle or just Mrad reticle. It was a hard choice between this or the Bushnell and honestly I chose the Bushnell because of price and ultimately because I love the DMR reticle of the Bushnell. But here is the Vortex https://www.amazon.com/Vortex-4-5-2...534529&sr=1-3&keywords=vortex+razor+hd+gen+ii

And also worth mentioning is the Vortex Razor HD Gen1 5-20. I don't care for the magnification range on the low end. And I think it is a little expensive sitting at 1700$. For what you are getting I think the price is high. But some people swear by it for some reason. https://www.amazon.com/Vortex-Optic...8&qid=1469535910&sr=1-8&keywords=vortex+razor

But It also depends on your budget too. If 1000-2500$ is out of your price range then these scopes listed below are great options too.

The Weaver tactical 4-20 FFP Mildot scope is sitting at just under 800$ and is a great optic. It has great reviews and I have used this scope on a friends rifle and it is repeatable and dependable. It is a great scope. It can be found here https://www.amazon.com/Weaver-Tactical-Scope-4-20x50-Reticle/dp/B002RGCIGO A 3-15 is available too I believe.

Another great optic for the money and about as low as I would go in the FFP world is the SWFA 3-15 FFP with Mrad reticle at right at 700$. It has great reviews and tests great with repeatability. People speak highly of it. The magnification range is decent being under 4 on the low end and over 14 on the high end. The reticle is "different" but it is Mrad and works well. http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-3-15x42-Tactical-Rifle-Scope-P62238.aspx

Getting lower on the price range but still a good scope if you can ignore its short coming. The Falcon 5.5-25 FFP scope with a Mrad reticle sitting at 450$ is definitely a option. Once again the reviews and testing of repeatability of the optic say enough in that this is a good scope. The one major short coming for me with this scope is I don't like having a variable optic with 5 or more on the low end of the magnification but the high end is decent at this price range and imo makes up for it. http://swfa.com/Falcon-Menace-55-25x56-Tactical-30mm-Riflescope-P47409.aspx

Now lastly at the bottom of the scale, the budget of budget, the economy EBR scope of scopes in the FFP Mildot or Mrad reticle club is the Primary Arms 4-14 FFP Mildot scope.
Yes it is cheap. No it isn't a Bushnell Elite, or a Vortex HD, or even a Weaver tactical. But it is a very affordable scope the has a simple Mildot reticle with a decent/average magnification range. The glass gets a little hazy around the edges from my research and is typical of lower end glass. However it is the area of the reticle you don't use and these scopes happen to be repeatable according to tests and oddly enough the reviews are superb. People are purchasing this scope as a FFP optic on a budget to put on something simple and have hardly any expectations of excellence out of the scope. But according to the reviews everyone is impressed with the quality of what you get for the money. I will be picking one of these up sometime to check out. https://www.amazon.com/Primary-Arms-4-14X-Tactical-PA4-14XFFP/dp/B00L5IL5X2

Other honorable mentions are Trijicon, Zeiss, Nightforce, and other brands too.

Well there you go. I did my part.

Well there you go. I did my part.

i would add the vortex viper series to that as well. depending on what your price range is. i recently purchased a viper pst 6-24 ffp mrad. the part I've been most pleased with is the EBR-2 reticle. its also available in 4-16, and the HST is an option if your looking for something a little less expensive.

personally, i think the most important aspect of a "long range" optic is the reliability of the turrets. crystal clear glass is nice, but is your dials don't return to the same settings every time you've got a problem. no specific mentions, just something to keep in mind.

honestly if your eyes are good you can probably hit man sized target at 600 with a good set of iron sights.

This is a tough question to an answer for many reasons. What is "medium to long distances"?

What kind of mount are you gonna use?

I have a socom in EBR chassis with a 3x9 trijicon scope. I found the scope tube wasn't long enough to use the clip guide mount and end of rail and still reach far enough back for a good eye relief. Spent a lot of money to make it work. I also decided I didn't wanna remove my scope to remove the action from the chassis. So ultimately I had the top rail shaved to fit a sadlak scope mount, and mounted my trijicon 3x9 in badger rings. I'm really happy with the end result but was not easy to get it all figured out.
very very good point Zerstoren77. I've had a lot of trouble with mounting. i started out with a cheap promag ARMS copy mount, poor decision. the fitting hardware was not solid and the mount was not level with the rifle, it tilts forwards and to the left. eye relief is horrible, i have to extend the stock back an extra 2 places. my little t-rex arms hardly reach the grip/grigger group making for very awkward shooting. so against most peoples advice i ordered a sage spripper clip mount and I'm waiting for it to come in.

basically if i take out my complaining, make sure your mount is level, you're going to get good eye relief, and your rings are aligned well. lapp if you have to.
