I suggest instead of spending the money on usgi spec replacement hammer and op rod springs you buy a set of chrome silicon spring from Superior Shooting (Tubb's).

I've been using them for years now with thousand of rounds on them still running just strong and in my opinion they are better than the usgi's.
Chrome silicon has been tested and is used in springs in many fields to outlast music wire springs.
The hammer spring also makes the trigger smoother a bit.

Consistency makes a difference in a semi auto actions accuracy and the Sadlak guides do make the action more consistent even if it only effects the accuracy in a small amount.
I wouldn't run anything else myself. There's just no reason to with how well my M1A's run on the Sadlak guides.

Another upgrade you may be interested in is a set of Superior Shooting (Tubb's) chrome silicon springs.
A replacement for the music wire, recoil and hammer spring.
There another thing I wouldn't run without too. DI5

I think the polished piston just operates smoother and is easier to clean. didn't really notice a difference. I replaced it with a sei usgi one. it's true usgi spec and cryo treated. plus i'm a sei *****. they truly have top shelf parts. If you want goodies, start with them.

I installed a chrome silicon spring with a sadlak op rod guide. the op rod guide is hardened so it'll last longer and won't give you trouble with mag lock up. there's no special spring for the socom. info on the c.s. spring from brownells,

Try a new op rod spring for starters. I personally like Tubb CS springs for my rifle, you get the hammer and op rod springs for about $25 and they last quite a bit longer... they claim 500,000 rounds. Most recommend replacing a GI spring between 2000 and 5000 rounds which you're right in the middle of. I like to replace them as a set too since they'll pretty much wear at the same time. You can buy them DIRECT or from BROWNELLS.

The reason I was saying manually eject one round was to check the bullet itself to see if maybe it got pushed into the case or the tip got damaged when manually cycling. This is something that would show up in the manual loading process but not after being fired. Sounds like when it self loads it's quick enough not to be a problem.
